About

A bibliophile since infancy — when he no doubt was also an aspiring bibliophage, an aspiration he outgrew decades ago — Jared Camins-Esakov is starting work on a Master of Science in Library and Information Science at the Palmer School of Long Island University and a Master of Arts in Russian and Slavic Studies at NYU, having earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from The College of New Jersey in 2007. He has worked in libraries across four continents. In October/November 2008 he held a one month fellowship in the Western Manuscripts Section at the Bodleian Library of Oxford University. This fellowship built on his experience with special collections librarianship, his specialization in the MSLIS program. Prior to the fellowship at the Bodleian, he spent several months working for a private book collector in Edinburgh, Scotland, and during the fourth quarter of 2007 he was librarian at the American University of Afghanistan.

Besides librarianship and material culture, Jared’s academic interests range from linguistics to early modern Russia. He also enjoys studying languages, and has studied a half dozen languages, including Arabic, Latin, and Russian.

Jared moved to Astoria, New York at the end of August 2008 and is currently working as a cataloger at the American Numismatic Society, as well as freelancing for private collectors and antiquarian book dealers. He is always interested in building his consultancy and is happy to meet with prospective clients.
